5WOW great TV, good price  May 02, 2010
This is my first LCD, so I don't have a lot of experience to go by. It has a wonderful picture and great sound and all the different ways to connect to it is amazing. I think I will be learning about what can be done for quite a while. Yesterday I was playing with the network feature and found that it can play a movie that is on a computer on my wireless network. This was a open box set and it came with the wrong remote and manual, once that was cleared up, I think I got a great TV for a good price.

2NOT DLNA Certified/Compliant  Feb 08, 2010
I'm going to keep this short, but in summary - not worth the money - the network connectivity is not really working and it's NOT DLNA compliant. You as might as well just buy a cheaper TV and an external box or buy a different brand.

Here's why:

Positive:
1) Customer support is really friendly - although unless you get the highest level reps (who only the TV repair guy can call) they're pretty much incompetent. Every question I asked, they had to put me on hold so they could ask a manager - or Google it.

2) The sound isn't bad.

3) Bang for buck - it's probably the lowest priced networked TV out there with Netflix. BUT, if you're looking to connect to other devices, be prepared for some frustration - or lack of success.

4) The 120Hz does help - I noticed significant difference from my 60Hz Sony. Much easier on the eyes - but LG isn't the only company that makes 120Hz tv's.

Negative:

1) NOT DLNA Certfied - you know that standard that everything home connected is using? LG decided to skip out and no plans to add. Means that in the future as more devices come on board, you likely won't be able to connect to them. Have fun being tied to your PC and run everything through that.

2) Very difficult to get connected to your PC - spent 14 hours on the phone with tech support before we could even get it to connect to the PC. It would not connect to my Seagate BlackArmor NAS nor my WD My World Edition NAS - LG engineer said it was the drive's fault. NOT true - I returned this thing and bought a Samsung LN46B650 and connected fine. My WD TV player also worked fine with both.

3) The remote is REALLY uncomfortable and awkward. Really lacking in features. Number buttons are too far away from each other.

4) You get a LOT of pixelation. If you just came from analog, this will knock your socks off - BUT you have no idea what you're missing.

In the end, after all that time with the rep, they just said I should return the unit. It was really painful because I got a REALLY good deal on this, ~25% off the Amazon price through some Fry's deal. Believe me, I really wanted this thing to work. But in the end, I sent it back, spent about $200-300 more on the Samsung LN46B650 and I have no regrets whatsoever. The picture is just so much more sharp. The sound is amazing, remote has a lot of nice features, you get PIP, Netflix, Yahoo Widgets, Addt'l Downloadable content, and DLNA (I was able to connect to my NAS drives no problem - still working on getting it to stream mkv, but other formats work fine)

Don't bother with this LG TV.

5Fantastic TV!  Dec 27, 2009
I have to say, this is the best purchase I've made in quite some time. I researched TV's for a month before hesitantly ordering this one. I'm so happy with it...
1) The set up was simple. Plug it in, let it acquire TV channels, watch!
2) Internet connectivity is a snap and it is awesome. I expected poor performance on this feature because my internet connection, which is considered broadband, is slow compared to most broadband speeds (I'm very rural). Streaming video from Netflix is flawless (now if they would get some better titles for streaming.... but that's another story).
3) Picture quality is fantastic. I really have nothing to complain about. I read reviews where people said the blacks were not deep enough. I don't have that complaint. I find the HD viewing incredible and the standard definition is just fine.
4) If there is anything to complain about, and I feel it's nitpicky, is that the manual is on a CD instead of printed out, so if you have a question you have to go to your computer instead of flipping through the pages of a manual. Since the TV is so simple to understand, I'm not lowering my rating because of it.
I did pay $1199 for this TV with free shipping ([...]) which has a Bill Me Later payment option with no interest and no payments for 6 months. I see that Amazon has it for about $70 less, but that's how it goes. Overall I'm thrilled with my purchase. Happy, happy, joy, joy!

4The future is here!!  Dec 09, 2009
I just purchased this television the other day, on sale at Fry's for $895. This is a really great deal, in my opinion. NetFlix works amazingly; the TV does show the limits of the quality of some of the Netflix videos. Some of the Netflix content is HD.....and it looks great.

I want to address that fact that the reviewer stated that you can't stream video over your network. Maybe at the time of the review, you could not, but I can tell you it does......without a doubt. Mpeg, AVI, Divx, and Mkv all worked when I streamed them from my Network attached storage device. It is an amazing feature considering I download most of shows that I watch.

The Vudu feature is very nice as well, basically a pay per view streaming HD service. I have not had a chance to watch a movie through the service yet. I have watched many of their trailers, the quality is amazing.

Pros

NetFlix
Vudu
Access to network attached storage devices, for streaming video.
YouTube
A very robust broadcast HD tuner, my....last set really failed in that department.

Cons
Not crazy about the remote.....
It can't operate other devices such as DVD, VCR, or a cable box or at least I have not yet figured that out.
I don't like the layout of the remote.
I could take or leave the Yahoo wigets.

5Outstanding Internet TV  Dec 08, 2009
This TV is fantastic! I was originally looking at a lower LG model, but Amazon had a great price! This TV arrived in less than a week and set-up was a breeze. There's a quick wizard to walk through, and once completed, you're up and running. The Internet connectivity was as simple as plugging in a network cable to the back of the TV. I was already a Netflix user so that was as simple as activating the device and the streaming ability of the TV, in my opinion, is better than streaming through my XBOX 360. The Yahoo Widgets worked out of the box as was nice for basic content ability.

I haven't spent the extra time "tweaking" the picture through LG's picture controls, but once I'm done, I look forward to many nights of high-quality HD movies and sports!

Consumer Reports Says: Buy HDTV at Amazon!

Washington, D.C. (October 31, 2008) -- When it comes to price, Consumer Reports says shoppers are most likely to find the best deals online. And the publication called three ecommerce sites "standouts" in this year's Consumer Reports ratings of electronics stores: Amazon.com, Crutchfield.com and B&H (bhphotovideo.com)

The magazine's survey was based on more than 38,000 purchases of electronics, including flat-screen TVs, between January 2007 and June 2008. The report indicated that online stores consistently offered better prices. (The magazine's full report can be found in its December 2008 issue.)

"
Buying online can be better," the magazine said in a press release. "The higher-rated electronics retailers in Consumer Reports annual reader survey are Web sites. Readers who bought online rated their overall satisfaction at 90 out of 100 -- higher than those who bought in a store. Additionally, many Web merchants offer free shipping, even on TVs, which could spare the hassle of struggling to fit a bulky carton in the car or paying a local store for delivery."

Consumer Reports said that while no single retailer scored excellent in all shopping categories, Amazon.com and Crutchfield.com came closest.
