2Dead in the box and now buzz  Aug 31, 2010
I just bought this TV over the weekend. The first one was dead in the box requiring a trip back to the store to exchange. The replacement has a buzz. Additionally I did notice a little burn-in at the 4:3 edges. This may be since the TV is new, but I was told that burn in doesn't happen anymore so my expectations were not met. I am thinking about a return.

4I like the TV. Ghosting's kinda rough. Amazon goofed on the shipping.  Aug 25, 2010
I've had this TV for a few weeks, and I really enjoy the picture quality when I have it hooked up to a device with component cables. Any standard definition device hooked up through composite is very poor quality, but I think that's probably standard for HD TV's.

I have noticed a lot of ghosting on this TV. In other words, if any kind of static image is left up on the TV even for just 15-30 minutes you will see that image for a while on black screens. I've had some problems with video games where you have static displays up for long periods of time. It sometimes takes a day or two to get the image retention to go away, but it does always go away. No burn in yet.

I may very well go with an LCD TV or maybe a panasonic plasma next time. I've heard that panasonic doesn't have anywhere near the image retention problems that other tv manufacturers have.

I'd also like to mention that the shipping on this item was handled with gross incompetence on Amazon's part. When you sign up for free super saver shipping, Amazon does not provide a field to put in your phone number. When ordering a large flat screen TV most companies will contact you to set up a delivery, and the one Amazon uses is no different. Since Amazon did not allow me to input my phone number I simply waited a week. I noticed that on the shipment tracking the item just stayed in my town for several days. I eventually found out that the shipping company would have simply kept the TV forever if I had not found a way to contact them and update them myself. Amazon really needs to fix this.

5Excellent Product and Delivery  Aug 20, 2010

I was shopping for an LCD until I saw this model at someone's home. I bought the same one. The picture is bright and detailed on HD. Happy with the Plasma at less cost for a bigger set. Burnin protection on this TV should eliminate a problem that comes up on Plasma TVs.

5WWWOOOOOWWWW!!!!!  Aug 17, 2010
Simply the best tv on the market for the price. Colors are great, HD is superb, menus are easy to navigate, after a few adjustments of the sound settings the tv provides good audio. Best tv I've ever owned by far. Buy it!

5Great TV, Great Price!!  Aug 12, 2010
So the original price for this 50 inch Plasma TV is $1299, when we bought this TV from Amazon for $899 out the door, we also saw it on sale at Best buy for $1169+tax+delivery, then it went on further sale for around $999+tax+delivery... so we still feel that we got the best deal at Amazon. The TV is great, it had no damage, the delivery people offered to pull it out of the box for us so we could plug it in and make sure it turned on. I was really worried about having something so big and expensive and electronic shipped. It didnt have a scratch on it. The picture quality is outstanding! I did a lot of research on what TV to buy because this is the last TV we will be buying for awhile. I considered LCD-LED, LCD and Plasma for my options. I felt that for the money, this TV offered the best value and quality (since we wanted to spend around $1000 to 1500 at the most). Since it has the Energy Star indicator I was not too worried about our electric bill. The TV does have some Image retention that fades away after awhile, but we have not experienced burn-in, it does have a feature called Pixel-shift that helps to avoid burn in. We generally will turn the TV off if we know we will leave it paused on a still picture for a long time. I didn't notice the humming until my husband pointed it out, I would have never picked up on it otherwise. It is very slight, and I can only hear it when I am looking behind the TV. I am really happy with this purchase!!! It also helps that Amazon has a 30 day return policy on this.

Consumer Reports Says: Buy HDTV at Amazon!

Washington, D.C. (October 31, 2008) -- When it comes to price, Consumer Reports says shoppers are most likely to find the best deals online. And the publication called three ecommerce sites "standouts" in this year's Consumer Reports ratings of electronics stores: Amazon.com, Crutchfield.com and B&H (bhphotovideo.com)

The magazine's survey was based on more than 38,000 purchases of electronics, including flat-screen TVs, between January 2007 and June 2008. The report indicated that online stores consistently offered better prices. (The magazine's full report can be found in its December 2008 issue.)

"
Buying online can be better," the magazine said in a press release. "The higher-rated electronics retailers in Consumer Reports annual reader survey are Web sites. Readers who bought online rated their overall satisfaction at 90 out of 100 -- higher than those who bought in a store. Additionally, many Web merchants offer free shipping, even on TVs, which could spare the hassle of struggling to fit a bulky carton in the car or paying a local store for delivery."

Consumer Reports said that while no single retailer scored excellent in all shopping categories, Amazon.com and Crutchfield.com came closest.
